LOGitEASY provides a free online service (Free Logs) for creating report-quality boring logs. The service includes use of the LOGitEASY eForm, a web-enabled data entry form that looks like a paper field logging form, and a choice of LOGitEASY Environmental or Geotechnical boring or well log templates.
We created the Free Logs service for all geotechnical and environmental consultants that aspire to improve their geological logging and boring log preparation capabilities, but currently don’t have the tools, support, or financial resources to do so.
How it Works
To start using the service, users must first Sign Up free to get access to the LOGitEASY Workspace (website) where the LOGitEASY eForm resides and where logs are generated. Once users log in, they open the LOGitEASY eForm and begin entering data. Data can be entered from any location (field or office) where there is an internet connection. It is also possible to enter data into the LOGitEASY eForm without an internet connection, if working in the field in remote locations or without a data plan. Once data has been entered and saved to the cloud, users can generate a LOGitEASY Environmental or Geotechnical template PDF log (legend also included). A digital file of the data is also available, but is not included in Free Logs service.
Users of Excel, Word, Visio, Corel, AutoCAD, or Other Non-Boring Log Software
With Free Logs, you now have free fit-for-purpose boring log software at your disposal. Our Free Logs service enables you to create high-quality boring and well logs out-of-the-box without having to purchase any software licenses. Plus, Free Logs enables you to create logs directly from field data, if you choose to log borings on a mobile device in the field.
Users of Other Boring Log Software
If you are currently using boring log software to produce logs, we invite you to try out our Free Logs service and compare it to your current software. And while you are trying it, don’t forget that the LOGitEASY eForm can be used as a field logging solution from which you can receive digital data for import into your boring log software. You will be able to instantly generate a LOGitEASY PDF log as a draft log while you complete the final log in your own software.
Enabling the Transition to Electronic Logging
The greatest long-term benefit of the Free Logs service is that it allows users to try out electronic field logging risk-free, without needing to purchase any software or learn separate software for field and office data entry. The transition from paper to electronic field data collection represents a paradigm shift in our industry and will therefore take longer for some than others. Once you learn how to use the LOGitEASY eForm in the office for transferring field notes, you will be able to use it in the field for logging soil borings. Your proficiency with one piece of software will allow you to fill two roles and increase your value to your company.
